How do i fix my ipod with "mustard" damage?

i was carrying my ipod around in my pockets and these mustard packets exploided on it. im pretty sure my ipod was on and playing a song when it went in. to make a long story short the ipod still works but it seems to be permanently on hold and shuffle and the wheel dosnt work. i can only make it play music by puting it in my ihome. is this similar to water damage and can it be fixed?
