How Long do I Leave A baby Spider Plant In Water Before Planting It?

Does anyone know how long do I have to leave a baby spider plant(indoors) submerged in a cup of water untill I plant it Im new at this house plant thing and I just wanted to know how long the roots have to be before planting also? Thank you in advance to all who reply.
