Independent versus dependent status for applying for scholarships?

In order to get USA federal financial aid you must be a US citizen or an eligible non citizen. I'm sure the same is true for Canadian financial aid. Cross the boarders and your options for financial aid are very limited. I don't know about Canadian fin aid, but for USA financial aid you are considered independent because you have a bachelors degree already regardless of who is or is not supporting you and regardless of your age.
